FUN and fancy-free...such fab colour too. i love the variation in summer scene, young love, fun with friends, new-found will for health and vitality...funny how summer stimulates those feelings in us with the presence of that sun, but i guess these are fading thoughts for you, being reversed down under! cheers luv, kerry p.s. i'll take good care of those oz blokes for you!
I keep seeing all the different mediums you use and you are fabulous in all of them. I really like these. Linocuts amaze me, and these are great. I'm so glad you posted three of them because the group is really fun together. The colors are just wonderful. Very best regards! Jacque
Well this is really good. I've only done one rubber stamp carving. I don't know if I could tackle a linocut and you do it with such skill. And the colors are great.
Anon, this is a superb series - my favourite is "Summer Morning". I really like the way you've depicted the water ripples. I'm afraid the topic does nothing for me, so I'll concentrate on some other art projects - but it's good to know that when I need a touch of inspiration I can drop by here.
Kerry summed 'Summer Time' feelings nicely and I had to post a few because have a draw full of many old Summer images. Summer is what sells the most and when I can print the most; it is now the beginning of Winter here brrrr.
Detlef, can believe Canberra is more difficult to acquire Summer inspiration, particularly in Winter. I only visit Canberra during Winter, although not this year.
Tony, is it the morning water or the day swarm of icecream eating teens you are afraid of?
big Harry take note on 'how' and thanks for the compliments:)
Hi again Janey, I break one image into sections for seperate days in between other things. Example, one day for working out image although it might only take minutes. Day two for cutting lino and relief printing first colour, time depends on how many are printed which can be one to hundreds (hundreds would take more than one day). Day three cutting and printing third colour etc. Next day would be for hand painting. Next day for numbering and record keeping. The seasons have an impact on ink drying times, so you might have to miss days to allow this.
You CAN design and print a reduction print in one day if using fast drying inks and printing a small edition. Set up and cleanup takes about an hour for printing. You don't need a press or a studio; you can use a spoon instead of a press, and roll ink onto a piece of glass with a roller on the kitchen table. You can even clean up with vegetable oil if using oil based ink or the kitchen sink if using acrylic!
Would have been an excellent Aquatic entry as well. The sense of movement and texture is wonderful. One can almost feel the differences in temperature. Lovely piece.
That pose is difficult to do (as any artist can tell you) and I am impressed that you would try it. A three quarter view over the shoulder, very challenging and eye catching. I luv what you did with the rippling water, illustrating large areas of liquid is not my strong suit and you do this incredibly well. Faaaantaaaastiiiiic !!!
Thank you Steve, this is an especially nice compliment - well written and thoughtful. This swimmer has swum daily for many years giving much opportunity to capture three quarter view over shoulder. You can also tell by her swimmers' shoulders :)
Y'know, I haven't considered linocuts since doing them in High School, but your results are a knockout! I love the slightly offset colours here (the smidgeon of red edging into the blue waves) and most of all her face in shadow.
The balance in this is amazing - you have that yellow of her back and arm jumping out together to from a kind of triangle (with the red), which reads as solid, but then there's her head and the whole sense of unbalance and imminent immersal. Brilliant!
Oey ... watch it Steve! I'm on the side of the pool remember ... trying to get that three quarter over the shoulder view. Argggggh, have to start again, paper is soaked.
your color choices and combinations here are so unusual and wonderful. The dark blue shades remind me of swimming as a child in a pond that was surrounded by trees and deeply shaded, wonderfully cold in the summer.
I really like too the way you've rendered the water, tremendous feeling of swirling movement.
WOW! This is just incredible--so skillfullly rendered and done. I know how difficult this is and I could never approach this in a million years. WOW! Great use of line and color.
You seem to really like linocuts, Mary Stebbins Taitt! There is something satisfying about the direct and irreversible approach to the medium. It gives a strong result :)

AAARGH! The pawn are swarming!
(Seriously- great pic. I don't know how you do it. Actually, I do know how you do it, because you tell us. Very nice :)

Fabulous!
Quite beautiful and serene. Lovely!

PS Don't treat them too soft Kerry, cheers!
wow, your work and talent is sooo deep. I just love how versitle you are.
I have no idea how you do this, but I love it.

I keep on coming back to this image. It so compelling (and you are so talented). How long does it take to do a linocut like this?
big Harry take note on 'how' and thanks for the compliments:)

Just gorgeous. I LOVE the colors and shapes.
It's great you picked up on the temperature changes James.
Gorgeous is good Laura, like your latest entry.
Scitillating is an excellent word as is effervescent and sparkling - thanks Wally :)
this is just fantastic mate... love it.
The colours are so warm. Great combos! you can feel a vibrating heat radiating from the picture. It makes me want to dive into the water.
Knew a different fish would like it mate :)
You will have to wait until the water warms again Katherine, unless you want to join the Sydney Icebergs.

We do have matching floral outfits Helena. You have done a great job with your illustration of creating summer fun during Winter!

Let me get my ruler Ian ... Hmmm, never did technical drawing. But you can critique my art any day!!!
I like this one a lot. The contrast of color and shape is pure genius.
This is just gorgeous. I like the simple coloring and the intense light.
Contrast of colour, shape, simple colouring, and intense light ... looks like I have found the recipe to get it right - thanks Eric and Tracy :)
Can I come swimming too ? CANNONBALL !!!!!!!
* Splash !!! *
:-D

Thank you Cin, I'm glad to have rekindled your childhood memory. Hoping it will cool you off a little where you are now :)
Unique piece that really drew my attention to it. Nice work!
Thanks Steve from Entangled Vines :)
