This is a manic drawing done on thin paper crinkling into what appears to be ‘almost erupting lesion lumps’ from his back. Ozzie cozzie sluggo’s have been added so this unfortunate suffering athlete who has been out of action for a while judging by his love handles - can go swimming, diving or surfing.

you have captured it well! .... for the love of sports-athletes can bear any pain and suffering even defeat isn't it?

Thank you Vfm4, you are too kind ..

Hhahaaa, it wasn't intentional for the poor guy to have a ripply back Isay; just poor quality paper. He could be submerged in water .. that's it, he's in ripply water. Most sports-athletes bear pain with a good Doctor. Thanks for your positive comment :)

hey

thanks for the comment on my site

nice work here, especially the pic below ?

can you describe the zinc etching process

cheers

connor :)

Hi Connor,
The pic below is an etching using the salt copper sulphate to etch the zinc plates instead of nitric acid. The process very condensed is as follows but replacing 'salt' with 'acid':

Zinc etching - a metal zinc plate is coated with a varnish-like coating or 'ground' which acid can't bite through. Areas of zinc are exposed by scribing the surface with an etching needle. The whole plate is then immersed in acid until the exposed lines are bitten. This produces grooves in the metal that will hold ink. The ground is then removed, before the plate is printed on an etching press. Multiple editions can be made from the plate.

Hope this helps :)

This is Wickedly Gorgeous! Love the little stars on his behind (which isn't bad itself };-}). Not familiar with sluggos where I'm from but I guess they are same as Speedos.

Anon,
A wonderful drawing although I can't quite see your subject as being submerged under water. No consequence, that, as the lights and darks and forms are so very strong as to make me, too, say WOW! I enjoyed your remark about the bad paper quality by the way...I'm always messing about with and testing different kinds of paper. Sometimes we win, sometimes we only get 2nd place. A terrific piece!

Since it's for sport, why didn't you use "fallen arches" paper? (drum fill) Does the constellation on his touchas have any signifigance? Awesome pic, as allways.

Beautiful and I like the tinting of skin. A part of me thought it was a statement about disabled swimmers (I read it as the swimmer not having arms). Either way, impressive...

There are problems with Blogger's comments - I'm not ignoring anyone, Blogger is shutting commenting out every now and again :(

I will tell Husband Miss Daze thinks his torso is wickedly gorgeous (after my own artistic licence has been added) :) The description 'Sluggo' encompasses all cozzies with the same cut as Speedos.

Arrrghh ... didn't think I could get away with him being underwater, he would have sunk with his arms in the position they're in. Mick, I used cheap paper because the drawing was a timed 15 minute sketch (explaining the manic lines) and the paper was brown toned thus cutting ink drying time for background colour. Actually, I was only a spectator :)

Hhehe thanks Knottydon. To do something like this involves a lot of exercise, rest and a good diet ... you'll get there :)

Hheheee, I’ll get the model to stomp across the paper with his flat feet before drawing on it next time Tony.

Actually Tony … your post “Over-Simplified Solutions to Complicated Problems” influenced my design for the athlete’s sluggo’s. This is my suggestion for a new Australian flag. On the athlete’s right cheek is the constellation of the Southern Cross (navigational feature of the southern hemisphere, strongly placing Australia geographically). On his left cheek is the Commonwealth Star denoting the seven states and combined territories. I would also add the Aboriginal flag in the top left corner to replace the current Union Jack symbol on our flag; however the red, yellow and black clashed design wise with the athlete’s skin colouring :)

Thanks Atomicvelvetsigh, the ‘zinc’ reference was actually about last week’s ‘Heroes’ illustration. However if you know of any zinc paper, let me know because Mick and I would love to experiment with it :) PS: Type ‘shadows’ 100 times.

Ta Wissy and to an athlete dying young - round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead.

It's great you are disability aware Emily - yes it could be an armless swimmer :)

Thanks Steve, musculature is fantastic :)

I really like this, nice technique. I was thinking of doing a swimmer too, I'm an ex swimmer, but now I've seen yours I don't feel as confident anymore. I also hope my swimsuit wasn't as transparent as his! Nice job.

love the bit of crack...a cute touch! and your design for the speedos sounds like a great idea for the auzzie flag...why not give the abbies representation and ditch the british influence...we've got the union jack too, but it kinda makes sense for us considering it's BRITISH columbia:D ha ha...
your hubby's a great sport for posing for you, especially in what i can imagine is a very uncomfortable garment!
cheers luv,

Don't give up on doing a swimmer Khya ... he is a diver or surf lifesaver. Besides a girl in a cozzie is generally more popular on the web than a guy :)

Hubby won't be posing any more - we discovered something that doesn't work in our relationship :) I'm glad you like the cute touch Kerry - forgot to mention his aussie cozzie was digitally added especially for IF. Just couldn't completely cover the best bit of the drawing :)

Little witches are always nosey ... it was a fast and furious 15 min (including ink drying time) figure sketch. The later added digital cozzie took longer because it had to gel with the image and not so practised at digital :)

is it the standing still endlessly that he's tired of, or having his wee toosh out there for all the world to see?!:D if it's the latter, just tell him that he's lucky you didn't post full frontal to the web;)

Hhheee, it's the standing still bit Kerry. He would move, then not go back into exact position, then I'd feel bad about making him rearrange, then he'd feel bad he can't get it exact - I think those extra strong lines might not only be related to going quickly, but the immediate 'mood' also :)

Katherine and Kerry - don't get too excited :) Smiling is healthy and safe Katherine, BUT Kerry - hhheeee what are your Ozzie workers wearing right now?

Hheheeee. 'Athlete' seems to be iconic to the visiting girl bloggers Detlef. Don't feel too bad, I already used quite a bit of artistic licence on those handles plus other bits :)

Reckon those skegs need a bit of elastic or those surging buttocks are going to pop right out. A "wardrobe malfunction", think. Always a risk at these sporting events.

Sounds like you have had experience with skegs and lack of elastic, Aesop :) Skegs are named sluggos for the same fear factor here in Australia. Imagine a slug, then the girls go "OH".

Bobi, thanks for your compliment. It's not a worked over photo, but if you know of a model who looks exactly like this - let me know :D

There's Australia, in the usual geographical location! (sob) This makes me come over all patriotic ;).

Fantastic use of media and the light you've captured is awesome! Was your model unclad and the speedos added later? It brings to mind that Tandberg cartoon with the swimming hero on the blocks and some marketing type saying "He couldn't have done it without his bathers!" :)

Thursday, July 07, 2005
Blogger Anonymous said...

Another girl captured by the transparent speedos - Janey :)

Yes the model was unclad Ian, and refused to re-model with briefs to get just right for IF. More for the fact it is Wintertime now. Had to imagine the sluggo's which were digitally overlaid.

I remember that cartoon - or was it a TV add for swimwear? Do remember Tandberg's cartoon "The Union Jack is part of our history but not our future". No more needs to be said :)
