She looks overwhelmed in my view, as if the weight of the world is on her shoulders - looks as if the only support she's getting is from the chair. You've an excellent job with the lighting, I know nothing about printmaking, is this a more difficult technique then some of the others you've used?

Hello Queen Tut :) She does look tired ... maybe she needs toast for breakfast! Thanks :)

Hhahhahhaaaaaa, agree her chair looks uncomfortable Tony LaRocca! Can see it on her face now :)

There is a weight of dark shades around her Detlef. Intaglio Etching is the most technical of techniques in printmaking. There are many steps to take and care must be taken in detail for health and a successful print. This one is also Aquatinted. Thanks!

Sitting in the cool after a rather tiring shop, Mary Lastrade thought to look at the paper. But its so good to sit and relax and let go of all the weight that was on her shoulders that she falls asleep.

Her first dream is of her mother who died a few years ago. The dream is strong and she sees her sitting with that calculating look she'd always use when regarding her daughter. Her mother always knew how to appear as though her words were meant to be kind yet, they'd cut right to the quick.

Mary shudders in her doze and moves on to another dream. In this one she sees herself small and cold, sitting very still, asleep by a radiator.

Now she is dreaming within a dream and in this dream she is sitting with a shaggy rug draped over the back of her chair. The rugs eye's open and its mouth too showing strange teeth.

Somehow it had turned into a green man and ....

an email arrives and wakes her up. the tea has brewed nicely.

Good ol' Caroline! I'm nowhere near as imaginative -- too busy being impressed by anyone who does etchings. I always had trouble working in mirror image. Very sombre feeling to this. Good one for a dreary February day (dreary here that is -- not Down Under I'm sure!).

Your imagination is limitless Andrea! It’s difficult to be dreary Down Under in February, especially around midday – but the scene could be night time :)

She does look beat Catnapping. I wonder if the feather scarf flung over the chair has anything to do with it? :)

first of all-i wanted to tell you that i always looked forward in you artwork using this kind of technique because you are really very good at it-the details and everything-so lovely.

the first thing that entered my mind upon looking at this image is a memory in the dry market with so little light in every stall. she was able to sit down because it is either she has sold everything or was waiting for her husband, and was thinking another day is over and she has worked hard and earned some profits but was thinking when is she going to have a vacation with her family. i had memories of these because I have been once a market vendor. having experienced that gave me an insight of how to earn money and sat down in the market very early morning and go home in the evening. mixed emotions and hapy and sad experiences - that is life.

sad story(LOL)but i like images like them. their faces and actions tells a lot.

Joli Noir Perle ... hello. Your story about myself and Hellcat goes, "not to mention that poor girl at Anon’s place. just look at her, worked to the bone. too tired to poor a cup of tea for herself & her poor legs…all puffed up, but not from dancing...no, no. this my friends, is your true Cinderella story. and her poor kitten HellCat, the stories this little ball of fur could tell. and we are surprized this babe sprays everything he sees, not me!"

Along with contradictory "your poor IF chair post" and "love the etched chair" astounds me. Don't know what more to say.

Apart from NO Hellcat spray near the basket.

She listened to the clock ticking

The lights dimmed and grew bright
again.

Paulette, cried alone in her chair.

Great! I keep looking at the details, it´s an awesome linework. Is that a pepper mill in the background or a lamp? I think we might deal here with the very presence of Goddess Athena, realising supermarket shopping is a drag. How on earth can humans last through it all of the time? And then someone stepped on her beautiful feather boa. Now she reads in her cooking book about how to make good tea. The "Be human"-day once a year was certainly no fun. Whack Hermes for that silly idea!

But so far I do OK, knock on wood--except for the time a hit and run driver ran a stop sign and knocked me into a ditch and kept going. The ditch was full of ice water. And I had a broken knee.
